To celebrate London’s Chelsea in Bloom, REDValentino has created an exclusive T-shirt in collaboration with Matteo Giuntini. The Italian artist, whose work encompasses painting, drawing, sculpture and installation, calls himself a dreamer, and was the perfect man for the whimsical T-shirt collaboration. Here he tells us the story behind the design, and why he chose the tiger as the main symbol. Wear it now to nod to the vibrant flowers of Chelsea in Bloom festival, and to brighten up seasons to come.
How would you describe your work?
“I am an artist and dreamer. If I had to use three adjectives to describe my art they would be honest, ironic and reflective.”
What was your inspiration for the T-shirt?
“I was inspired by the theme of this year’s Chelsea in Bloom: Floral Safari. I started thinking about the jungle, and the harmonious balance of lush greenery and animals within it. The tiger is a motif that often appears in my paintings, and always has different meanings. For REDValentino, my tiger motif was inspired by a passionate, feminine, sweet and strong girl.”
What was your favorite part about working with REDValentino?
“I liked all phases of the collaboration, from the initial meeting to talk about the project to the realization of the painting on the T-shirt. There was a great feeling surrounding the whole process.”
