Scott Trindle is the master lensman behind REDValentino’s Spring/Summer ’17 campaign. He is fascinated by London and uses his background in documentary photography as a unique way of chronicling fashion. Here he reveals the surprising items he took on the REDValentino shoot day…

On treating fashion shoots like a holiday: ‘Good production is key on a photoshoot. The REDValentino campaign was a joy to work on as the team and I share the same belief that photo shoots should, above all, be fun. Too often models are treated like clothes horses, it’s important that the whole team feels comfortable so we can make the best work. That’s why it was great that we sat in the trailer eating pizza together.’

On inspiration: ‘I’m fascinated by London. The Hackney diners and launderettes in the REDValentino campaign are local institutions that are practically in my back garden. It was important to both the brand and myself that the backdrop had plenty of character to frame the clothes against.’

On documenting the Spring/Summer ’17 collection: ‘I started off doing documentary photography – after a terrible stint studying economics! I find that fashion has a similar narrative to documentary camera work, and I think that’s clear from the REDValentino Spring/Summer ’17 campaign shots. Each one layers London city scapes, portraits of Birdy and models Ina, Mia and Tandi, and close-up details of the collection.

On the importance of drinking tea: ‘Wherever I travel I always pack PG Tips, a Frisbee and a music stereo. On our cold shoot day in London tea was essential to raise spirits – and the chips in the diner, of course.’
